Content Best Practices When Outsourcing Creatives

As an outsourced content creator, working alongside a client’s existing team is not out of the ordinary. But whether working with just one person or a group of individuals, it’s important to have everyone involved in a project or campaign to be working towards the same goal.

A common phrase in my household – typically geared towards my 7-year-old for obvious reasons is, “teamwork makes the dream work!” Cheesy as hell? Sure. But the absolute truth? Even more so.

The chances of success always become higher when everyone puts their effort into achieving the same thing.

Being an “addition” to multiple teams, I know firsthand what will create well oiled machine and keep it from drying up!

Top Three Tips For Building Stellar Teamwork

Communication is key

It’s always important that everyone is on the same page - and it’s better to overcommunicate than under-communicate. This is especially helpful when certain members of the team have not been part of the planning session.

However, not all members of the team need to be inundated with ALL the information about the project. While relevant information can help provide a clearer focus on the task at hand, unnecessary or irrelevant information can just add to the noise and require extra effort to filter out.

I recommend at least a monthly check-in with clients and their teams to help you stay aligned on your projects and goals.

Define Responsibilities

A team should be able to work together like a well-oiled machine, so it’s important that each person knows the role they play in the team and what their responsibilities are.

Knowing who’s in charge of doing what is also especially helpful when tracking key responsibilities.

For example: Part of avoiding potential legal issues with published content is making sure images have a release - especially if kids are the focus or among the subjects in the photo.

Having a go-to person on the team to make sure that the necessary documentation and/or credits in the photos you use would be an ideal way to go.

Relevant Access

When you’ve got everyone’s responsibilities clear, in order for everyone to be able to do their job properly, they need to have access to the right resources.

Some of the things you want to consider are:

  • What information does your copywriter need to craft the copies required?

  • Which accounts does your social media manager need access to in order to manage your social media presence?

  • What mandatory images will your graphic designer use for your campaign/project?

  • How many videos does your video editor need to edit together?
